Mark Hevland

Director of Risk Management

International School Bangkok

ASISS  Co-Chair


Mark Hevland is the Director of Risk Management at International School Bangkok. He is a steering committee member of the Asia School Institute for Safety and Security, a member of the International task force on Child Protection, and an Advisory board member of the Global Safeguarding Collaborative. After 20+ years in Law Enforcement and emergency services in the State of Oregon, USA, Mark, and his family moved overseas to South Korea, where his wife was hired as an elementary school teacher. There, he started adapting his years of training and experience to support schools in safety and risk management. From South Korea, he moved to Shanghai, where he worked at Shanghai American School, covering two campuses. In 2016, Mark and his wife adopted their daughter in China and then moved to Thailand with her and their son. Mark is passionate about supporting other schools and continually trying to improve systems to make them easier for teachers.


Sebastian Wong

Campus Health and Safety Specialist

Singapore American School

Sebastian Wong, a seasoned outdoor education specialist, prioritizes risk and safety management. With a decade of experience leading diverse wilderness expeditions, he now serves as the Campus Health and Safety Specialist at Singapore American School, ensuring student well-being during K-12 educational travels. His passion for outdoor education was sparked during his time at Outward Bound Australia, where he earned a specialist diploma in Sports and Outdoor Recreation.

Ann Marie Simpson

Director of Risk Management and Student Services

International School Kuala Lumpur

ASISS  Steering Committee Member


Ann Marie Simpson is the Director of Risk Management at The International School of Kuala Lumpur. She is a steering committee member of the Asia School Institute for Safety and Security. She has worked in the private, government, and educational sectors covering Risk and Crisis Management, among a variety of other duties, for 14 years. She has worked for different organizations in Mexico and the United States before. In 2018 she and her family relocated to Kuala Lumpur to serve in the U.S. Embassy alongside her husband, who was assigned to The Office of Defense Cooperation under the US Navy. In her role at ISKL she works closely with Malaysian Authorities, the Diplomatic Corps, the Regional Security Office in the U.S. Embassy, and the ISKL community at large to ensure the Health and Safety of all students, faculty, and staff. She enjoys cultivating relationships between government agencies, expatriate families, and the host country to bring an understanding and appreciation of Malaysia and SE Asia as a whole to all community members.


Paola Morris

Director of Business Administration & Bursar

Dulwich College (Singapore)

ASISS  Steering Committee Member


Paola has worked at Dulwich College (Singapore) as Director of business administration since 2016, and at Dulwich College in Beijing from 2013-2016, having spent her earlier career in the UK, working for the UK parliament and Cambridge university. A qualified chartered accountant, Paola has oversight of most non-academic functions at Dulwich College (Singapore), including security, operations, and risk planning and controls. Paola is a qualified ICQ auditor and with a deep passion in Business Improvement and Capacity Building, Occupational Health and Safety and Quality Systems Management, and recently oversaw the achievement of ISO45001 and 9001 at the College, as well as currently working towards data protection trustmark. Paola has been a member of the ASISS steering committee since 2017. 

Tim Chappell 

Operations Manager

Harrow International School Bangkok


Tim is currently working as Operations Manager at Harrow international School Bangkok, where he has lived since 2010. He previously worked as a Police Officer for Bedfordshire Police in England where he received extensive training and experience in crisis management, evidence gathering and investigation, gaining two Chief Constable Awards in the process. Tim has completed both the International General Certificate and Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, through the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH), and is a Graduate Member of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH). Tim has continued his professional development, completing the IOSH certified BS OHSAS 18001 Lead Auditor course, Safety Officer Management Level (Siam Safety) and the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) Level 3 Food Safety Certificate. Tim is also a trained Operational Playground Inspector through the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA). Tim developed the health and safety system for Harrow Bangkok, and provided risk management advice through inspections, reviews and completion of risk assessment reports for the Harrow group, identifying hazards, level of risk, priorities, and how to develop a positive health and safety culture. Tim has built a reputation as being an authority in Health and Safety within the international school environment, organizing and co-hosting health and safety conferences, and is part of the OFFSEAS (Outdoor Forum for South East Asian Schools) committee, and in 2016 winning 'Best Practice Aware for Personal Leadership and Strategy from the Thailand Facility Management Association, appearing in the Royal Charted Institute of Surveyors magazine discussing the challenges of managing health and safety in Asia

John Livingstone

Operations Manager

Jakarta Intercultural School

ASISS  Steering Committee Member


John Livingstone is the Risk Management Advisor at the Jakarta Intercultural School. After a short career in the British Army, John moved to the private sector, where he specialised in protective security and emergency response in hostile environments. He later transitioned into wider safety and security risk management roles in the Oil and Gas engineering and construction industry, holding regional manager positions in the Middle East and Asia Pacific before settling in Jakarta, Indonesia. Gaining an honours degree in Security Risk Management and a master's in Safety Risk Management throughout his career, he’s now adapting his knowledge and skills to the education sector.


Michael Flynn  

Director of Operations and Security 

International School Manila


Mike is a versatile professional with a rich background in education, security, and uniformed services. Holding degrees from esteemed institutions and a post in Risk and Security Management, he has served as a police inspector, teacher, and administrator. Mike has significantly contributed to Cebu International School and International School Manila, excelling in roles ranging from IB Program Coordinator to Director of Operations and Security. A proactive participant in campus life, Mike teaches, advises, and mentors while actively engaging in school and community initiatives. His extensive involvement extends to leadership roles in security organizations and his hosting of the ASISS conference in 2019.


Harry Harkins  

Director of Estates 

Marlborough College Malaysia


Harry has been the Director of Estates at Marlborough College Malaysia since July 2012, joining a month prior to opening.  Prior to Marlborough College Malaysia, Harry served in the British Army and then he joined Jardine Securicor/G4S managing security operations, cash logistics and business optimisation, building treasury facilities for central banks and consulting on a wide range of related disciplines.  As part of the Marlborough College Malaysia Senior Management Team, Harry is involved in delivery and policy on a broad range of operational topics such as security, safety, grounds, maintenance, capital projects, logistics and co-curriculum.

Harry has been a member of the ASISS steering committee since 2017
